Languages

Cambodia's official language is Khmer, and this is spoken by majority of the population. Vietnamese and several Chinese dialects can also be heard. Khmer is non0tonal and has also picked up and adapted many words from Sanskrit and Pali. Khmer has also borrowed many terms from Chinese and European languages, particularly French.

Let us take a look at some useful phrases in Khmer!

Hell0 - Sousday (Soos-day)
Goodbye - Lea Heuy (Lee-High)
How are you? - Sok sabai chea tay? (Sok-sa-bai-chea-tea)
I'm fine - Knhum sok sabai chea tay (Niam-sok-sa-bai-chea-tea)
Yes - Baat (For man), Cha (For woman)
No - Otay
Thank you - Akun (Or-kun)
Thank you very much - Akun jann (Or-kun jai)
Sorry - Sohm toh (Som-toh)
